Rich Adams

Hi there! My name is Rich, and I'm a British programmer living in San Francisco. By day I work with servers at Gracenote, by night I write code and fight crime^*. I also write about programming and web related things whenever I find the time. Check out my CV/résumé if you're into that sort of thing.

Here's what I'm currently up to,

• During the day, I'm a systems engineer working on cool stuff at Gracenote in San Francisco.
• Playing various security related CTF challenges for fun.
• Taking classes to learn Cantonese ( 广东话 ).
• Occasionally putting up small projects on my GitHub account.
• Constantly changing the code for my photo album site (and trying to become a better photographer).

Here's some things I've built or worked on in the past,

• Built パチラジオ (pach.io), a random playlist generator, as part of Music Hack Day Tokyo 2014.
• My article on AWS tips was printed in Hacker Monthly Issue #46.
• Created PHP and Java wrappers for Gracenote's Music Web API.
• jQuery Taphold, an event to detect when a user holds a click/tap for a set time.
• jQuery Tripleclick, an event to detect triple clicks.
• NagNOC, a fullscreen Nagios status monitor for a NOC or operations room.
• NagNOT, an IM/SMS notifier for Nagios.
• Added various security enhancements and plugins to Symphony, an open source project on GitHub.
• Word Zombies, a HTML5 game (built for a 24hr hackathon), where you shoot zombies by typing words.
• I worked on baggage related parts of Altéa Departure Control, a global airline departure control system.
• TrackTaste, a music recommendation engine I built for my final year Masters degree project.
• Some greasemonkey scripts and a Firefox toolbar for the LiveJournal support teams.

I love to travel (and keep lists), so here's my travel map with a list of places. A blue pin is somewhere I've been, a green pin is a mountain I've climbed (well, attempted to climb) and a red pin is anything else. South American and Africa are looking pretty empty, hopefully not for too much longer.
